scratch that.

well hello there kiddos! not sure how the week, much less september, has flown right by... it might have something to do with being busy re-unpacking. yep that's correct, crazy huge news RETRACTION going on here. the tiltons are staying right where they belong in good old ov, ca. long story short, bri's old job counter-offered and we are happy to be staying by the people we love. which brings us to this thursday's edition of:

there are a lot of potential changes on the horizon... nothing for sure until next week, so instead of worrying about what might be we've been investing heavily in time with friends! today we wandered through the crowds at the state fair with carly and her little mister. the type treatment on the photobooth signs caught my eye and are the inspiration for this week's

illustrate tonka - check!

it's thursday and time for a special edition of

last week i came up with a few images to celebrate crosby's birthday:

we have been collecting old-school tonka trucks for this little mister since before he was born. bri had the whole collection as a kid and spent a lot of time playing in the yard with them (hmm... some things never change - just bigger toys now - hee hee!)

i printed the image and made a onsie for crosby just like this project.

1. sewn streamers (see this tutorial - so easy and fun!!!) 2. old-school tonka truck... i actually filled this with crosby's dirt cake, 3. yellow flower pot with dirt cake... this was crosby's personal cake, 4. custom party signage, 5. custom party confetti pieces (dump trucks & no.1), 6. black&white photos from crosby's 1st year that went up on a poster.

i also used the images to tie his birthday party together...



a few close-ups of the details. i love that the yellow is so cheery!

i should also mention that crosby got to celebrate with his cousins the weekend before. he devoured a special truck/rock cake that his super talented grandma made him.

he is a very loved little boy!

you''ve seen this sweet pug as a blur in the background in two photo sessions now. meet memphis, our friend's pug:

he also goes by doodie and memphy and is very patient with our maniac, d, when she chases him through the house and yard! i created this illustration for his family last year.

we've missed out on two weeks of illustrated goodness, so let's get back on track with this week's

i've been rather smitten with feathers lately... specifically solid ones of leather or felt. not sure why. i think i like the idea of adding them as a simple detail and they are fairly gender neutral.

i want to try these with some watercolor details for a summery feel. not sure... i do owe you two more illustrations though.

keeping it simple for this week's:

it's finally feeling like summer outside, so we've had the bubbles out each evening... soon we will be busting out our crayola color bubbles!

we have just one more day of school... then i will have a second grader?! time to get on that summer adventure list!

happy thursday everyone! hope your managing to stay dry... hopefully this june gloom only lasts a few more days. we are counting down the days until school's out for summer and getting ready to create our summer adventure list!!!

but, enough about that... let's move right along to week no. 2 of:


we've got the 2nd half of last week's project. we had a double-header birthday party - my nephew was celebrating his 7th birthday a little early.

so i created an illustration that i think most of our 7 yr old buddies would love...

and then we followed the same steps from last week.

create. print (reverse). trim. iron. peel. wear!

i've been an editing fool for the past two weeks, which is craziness for me but great news for you! it means i have lots of new beautiful faces to share.

with only thirty one weeks left this year, i plan on filling each one with some illustrated goodness!

so, let's kick things off with part one of a project that i completed yesterday...

let's do it... ah, break-it-down!

step no.1 : create pink pony to celebrate my niece's 5th birthday!

step no.2 : print (reverse image if text is included) on a sheet of iron-on fabric transfer paper (i used print n' press brand)

step no.3 : trim unprinted area

step no.4 : place image face down on tank-top and iron

step no.5 : peel off backing paper (note: for a matte finish, peel right away - for a glossy finish wait til cooled)

step no.6 : for extra fun, add a cute detail to the back!

step no.7 : enjoy your new summer tank - yeah!

this was super fun to do! i love that we chose a yellow tank... good job d! i am curious to see the wear&tear of the ribbed fabric. i think next time we will use a smooth cotton.
