so many things going on here this week... countdowns to 1. summer, 2. weddings, 3. a tropical getaway for 2! celebrating engagement announcements... graduations, parties. lots of prepping, creating, enjoying. looks like crosby learned to clap just in time!
tomorrow d has her big end of the year party, so today i'm getting the teacher's gift put together. which reminded me that i had photos to share of the projects we did to celebrate teacher appreciation last month. here is what the week's plan looked like:
i tried to keep it simple by involving the kids only on tuesday and thursday. plus, i came up with a little theme (silly sayings) for each day that took full advantage of first grade humor!
here is how each project turned out:
the friday before i went by the school in the afternoon to get the iphone photos of the kiddos. it was kinda crazypants doing those in bulk, but the kids were awesome! in between huge gusts of wind and fishing rocks out of crosby's mouth, we got it done :) the best part was watching the kids check out their photos on monday morning - such sweethearts!
(door poster supplies: packaging paper roll (kraft), glitter letters, photos, tissue paper frills for the top of poster. create the poster ahead of time, roll it up for safe transporting, tape on door & unroll - tada!)
on tuesday, i had the kids bring in flowers from their garden. i had containers (vintage tin cups in shades of blue) ready for them in the morning. the project was a huge success! not only did the kids bring in a ton of flowers, but they were super enthusiastic about being involved.
(potted message supplies: terra cotta pot, hydrangea - or other small plant, small "thanks" bunting banner, baker's twine, 2 new pencils, bloom message. stick pencils in pot, string bunting and tape message to pot!)
for wednesday's treat, d's teacher got a starbucks giftcard.
(latte card supplies: 5x7 card, fun message, giftcard holder, baker's twine, tulle, new pencil, stirring stick, anti-spill stick. print message on card and attach giftcrd holder, tie with twine and tulle, include sticks and pencil while tying)
on thursday, i got the kids involved again by having them bring in different candies with silly messages attached... ex. "you are extra special" (extra gum), "i really scored having you as my teacher" (skor candy). there was a basket waiting in the classroom for all of the goodies that read, "you're so sweet!" at the end of the day, d gave her teacher the cupcake above. once again, the kids were thrilled to be involved!
(cupcake supplies: store-bought cupcake, store's cupcake holder (if they don't have one you can use a plastic drink cup with a lid, upside-down), message, baker's twine, tulle, fun candle. attach message and tie candle to packaging, gift!)
and finally on friday, d's teacher got a giftbag filled with goodies from bath&body works and a giftcard for a mani/pedi treat.
(giftbag supplies: giftbag, fun message, small envelope for giftcard. assemble and enjoy!)
overall, i really enjoyed putting together all of these projects. i got a great response from d's teacher and the other parents. but, the best surprise was how excited the kids were about everything. i think 6 is a magical age... so refreshing!
now, i'm off to conquer some more projects and errands. here's hoping warm weather makes an appearance quickly!
